Resumo

The texturing obtained by ultrashort pulse lasers is capable to produce an ablation with minimal thermal damage, preserving the surrounding material’s properties. Thus, it is possible to generate microtextures on the rake face of cutting tool to improve its performance. This paper aims to realize a comparison between two cemented carbide cutting tools, TPUN 160304, being one textured and another reference (non-textured), during austenitic stainless steel (V304UF) turning. The cutting parameters were kept constant. As comparison criteria, one measured the machining force, the flank wear of the tools and the arithmetic roughness along machining tests. The results point that the texturized tool presented a better overall behavior when compared to the reference tool.
