Resumo
Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, the significant part of machines and equipment manufactured by the industry use nuts and bolts as a means of fixing their components. The considerable advantage of the threaded joints concerning other methods, such as welding and riveting is the possibility of easy assembly and disassembly of the components using specific tools. An element common to every bolt and nut is the thread profile, which is commonly manufactured by the machining process. An alternative to threading process is the mechanical forming of the fillets, considering internal or external fillets. This technology of manufacturing can present advantages such as increased resistance and decreased stages of the production process, which can lead to a decrease in costs. One of the most commonly used metals in modern industry is stainless steel, especially when components need to be exposed to corrosive environments. The forming tapping of AISI 316 stainless steel was the object of this work. The analysis carried out with the optical microscope, and SEM showed that the main problem of this process was the adhesion of stainless steel to the surface of the taps. However, despite the adhesion of the material from the beginning of the process, it was observed that the production methodology or thread quality was not affected.
