Resumo
This work proposes a study of the coefficient of friction of the DLC (Diamond-like Carbon) coating in contact with ceramic material to evaluate its behavior and to compare it with the uncoated substrate (AISI 52100 steel). The evaluated coating was the ta-C / DLC deposited by the PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) method cathodic arc evaporation with ~ 1.5 µm thick on metal substrate. The evaluation of the adhesion of the film before the tribological test was done by means of the scratch test. The friction behavior of the DLC film, as well as the uncoated substrate, were evaluated against silicon nitride (Si3N4) spheres with contact pressure and relative motion in a pin-on-disc tribometer. The results of friction and wear for the dry ta-C / DLC film were very significant, with coefficient of friction values ??of 0.03 to 0.05 for high and low load, respectively, also indicating mild abrasive wear. The surface of the metallic substrate obtained higher coefficient of friction values ??for the same conditions (between 0.65 and 0.825) and severe wear.
