Resumo
The integration between design (CAD) and manufacture (CAM) is one of the main challenges faced in the manufacturing environment. In order to automate process planning as a connecting activity between design and effective manufacturing, the use of STEP neutral files for exchange information is a good alternative. This is due to the fact that the automatic recognition of machining features is performed from interpretation of this file. In order to reproduce this recognition, a module in Visual Basic language was developed, responsible for reading and storing information from a STEP file generated by CAD software Solid Works. This system allows the recognition of cylindrical geometries in rotational parts from rules applications. As main results, the developed system presents the data extracted from the STEP file and the identified geometries. Comparing the information obtained by the module with the specifications of the part design, it is verified that the system obtains satisfactory results. The extracted information can subsequently be used as input data in process planning, manufacturing or NC code generation systems.
