Resumo

The objective of this work was to analyse the influence of turning process parameters on tool wear. The parameters considered were depth of cut, cutting speed, and tool feed. SAE 52100 steel is widely used in the industry to produce mechanical components due to its wear resistance and high hardness. Based on this, the machining process is expensive and demands a lot of time in relation to other materials. In view of this, it is necessary to study the different machining parameters in order to optimise the manufacture of this steel and to reduce the final cost of the process. Thus, in this study, some parameters of the turning process in the SAE 52100 steel were defined and from that, the influence of each parameter was determined. Thus, an optimum point was defined in which a good quality parts with an affordable price can be defined. Considering the data obtained, the optimum option is to use a cutting speed of 125m/min with an advance of 0.05mm/rot and a depth of cut of 0.8mm.
