Resumo

The cardan shafts are automotive components present in the car transmission system with front and rear wheel drive. They have the function of transmitting the motor torque to the differentials. They are present in large vehicles, such as trucks and buses. In general, the shafts are made from steels. However, several other materials are used for the manufacture of the cardan shafts. Among them are composite materials. This paper aims to present the development of a computational model of a cardan shaft and an analysis of the component using the finite element method in order to analyze the behavior of the physical and mechanical properties of three selected materials: Stainless steel-304, Steel SAE 1045 and the Toray T700SC-12K-50C carbon fiber.
